Saw Set Hammers (Ryoguchi Asaritsuchi)

A set of Japanese Saw-Setting Hammers (Ryoguchi Asaritsuchi) in the various sizes. Hammers like these would have been used by professionals trained in setting/straightening saws called Metate-ya, as well as sawmiths. The ends have grooves filed into them to assist with stretching/shinking the saw teeth when setting. They are used in conjunction with an anvil or rail-toko to set the teeth of handsaws. The hammers are sized according to the work being performed (saw size, and rip vs crosscut teeth). The size references are universal to all Japanese hammers (genno). Extra Small (gokusho), Small (sho), Medium (chu), Large (dai), Extra Large (tokudai). Some hammers are signed or stamped with a makers mark, usually on the bottom.
